Is it possible to be able to work out the age of zebra finches?
It can be very difficult to tell the age of a zebra finch. Younger zebra finches tend to have a duller color compared to older birds. Most youngsters will also have black on their beaks until two to three months of age. After two-three months of age, the zebra finches will begin getting the orange beak and orange cheek patches for the males. Zebra finches are in full color and considered adults by 1 year of age. The average life expectancy for a zebra finch is 4-8 years. If your zebra finch has a leg band on it, then you can get the hatch date and breeder's information from that.
